4 Way Switch Wiring Diagram

 In this post, you will learn about the 4 way switch wiring diagram, in the last post I wrote about the 4-way switch working and how to use a 4-way switch. We also discuss the difference between 4 way and a 3-way switch. As you know that 3-way switch is used for controlling light bulbs from 2 places as in the staircase wiring connection. And when we want to control a light bulb from more than two places, then this work can be done using a 4-way switch. 


4 Way Switch Wiring Diagram 


In the below 4 way light switch diagram, I have shown a light bulb control from 3 switches, in the below wiring connection diagram, I have used two "3-way switches" and one "4-way switch". As you know if want to control a light from more than two places then we can do this with a 4-way switch.

In the above 4-way switch wiring connection diagram, I have shown the complete wiring connection of 3 way and 4-way switch. In the above connection, the neutral wire is connected directly to the light bulb holder/socket and the line wire throws the switches.


What if a 4-way switch is not available 

The 4-way switch is 4 terminals, and mostly available in markets, but in most cases, one-way and 3-way switches are mostly used, so it's possible that 4 way switch not available in your nearest market. However, you can purchase it online. 

The 4-way switch is the combination of two 3-way switches, and a 3-way switch is a single pole double throw. So it means that you can make the 4-way switch from double pole double throw switch. And the connection of a double pole double throw switch is too simple. Soon I will write about the working of double pole double throw switch.

4 Way Switch Diagram - How 4 Way Switch works?

 4 way switch diagram, in this post you will learn about 4 way switch and working of 4-way switch. As you know there are different types of switches, which we use for different purposes and control. In our house wiring, we use mostly two types of switches, In which one is a single pole single throw switch (one-way switch) and a single pole double throw (2 way or 3-way switch). However, this post is about the 4-way switch wiring connection diagram.

How does a 4-way switch work?

Four-way switch is the combination of two 3 way switches, which we used for controlling lights from three or 4 places. The 4-way switch has 4 terminals when switch on up position the current flow form two terminals, and when switch on down position the current flow from the same terminal but this time has a cross-connection.

 


What is the difference between a 3-way switch and a 4-way switch?

 A 3-way switch has 3 terminals (single pole double throw) and a 4-way switch have 4 terminals. A 3 way switch is used for switching a light from two places, such as in staircase connection. But using a 4 way switch you can switch a light bulb from more than two places.

Wiring Multiple Lights To One Switch Diagram

 Wiring multiple lights to one switch diagram, to wire multiple lights to one switch. Or to control multiple lights bulbs from one switch is a too simple and easy connection.  In this type of connection, we provide neutral wire to all light bulbs, and the Line wire is controlled from the one-way switch. And line wire connected to the switch and when switching ON, the line wire supply is starting to all light bulbs. And all bulbs will glow up.

kWh Meter 3 Phase Wiring Diagram

 kWh meter 3 phase wiring diagram, in my last post I write about the single-phase kWh energy meter wiring diagram. In this post, you will learn how to wire a three-phase energy meter with the main 4 pole MCB circuit breaker. The 3 phase energy meter has worked with 3 phase 4 wires system, which means that we also wire neutral wire with an energy meter.

In the three-phase kWh energy meter, we have 8 terminals, in which 4 for incoming power supply (3 phase 4 wire system) and 4 for outgoing supply to the load. In the below kWh meter 3 phase wiring diagram, all the connections are shown. However, it's can be different according to different models and shapes. So before installing a 3 phase kWh energy meter, first look at the company diagram. may it's different so follow the company diagram. However, most of the energy meter wiring connections are the same as the below diagram.

In the above diagram, a 4 pole MCB circuit breaker is also wired. However, you can also use the MCCB circuit breaker according to your load.

Single Phase Energy Meter Connection Diagram kWh

 Single phase energy meter connection kWh, This post is about the single-phase kWh meter wiring diagram. As you know there are two types of energy meters (Analog and Digital), but nowadays we mostly use digital energy meters. However, the wiring of analog and digital kWh energy meter connection is the same. Mostly the on energy meter the wiring diagram is provided by the manufacturing company. In the below diagram I have shown how to wire a single-phase energy meter kWh.

In the below energy meter wiring diagram, I have shown a single phase kWh meter single-phase supply, The line wire is connected in the first terminal, and the neutral wire is connected in the second terminal. This is the incoming power supply. The neutral wire goes to load from the 3rd terminal and the line wire goes from the fourth terminal.

Switched Outlet Wiring Diagram

A switched outlet wiring diagram is a simple connection of electrical wiring, in which an outlet wired with a switch. This switch is wired with a line wire and the outlet line wire is controlled by the switch. When we switch ON the switch, the outlet starts working. As you know there are different types of outlets, the two-pin outlets, and three-pin outlets. In two-pin outlets when having two points for 2 wire supply (neutral and line wire). And in 3 pin outlets (power plug), we have 3 points two for neutral and line (phase wire) and 3rd for earth wire (ground wire). In this post, you will learn how to wire a two-pin outlet with a switch.

In the below diagram, I have shown an outlet, one-way switch, and electric supply with N/L (single-phase). The neutral wire (black color) is connected directly to the outlet. The Line wire is connected to the switch and from the switch, the supply goes to the outlet 2nd terminal. Not that is the body of the board is made from metal then also connect an earth wire.

Wiring A 2 Way Light Switch For The Staircase

Today I am writing and sharing a diagram about the wiring a 2 way light switch for the staircase. For staircase wiring we use the 3 ways switches also known as the name of the 2 ways switches. This switch is a single pole double throw switch which means that switch has one common terminal which has contact with one terminal at the same time.
By using this staircase wiring connection a light bulb is controlled by two places (switches). In this type of wiring connection if a person switches ON the light bulb from one switch then he/she can switch OFF the light bulb from the 2nd switch.

In the below diagram I have shown the simple staircase wiring diagram, in which the neutral wire is connected directly to the light bulb socket/holder. the line wire is connected to the first switch common point and two wires connected between both switches as shown in the below diagram. From the second switch common point the Line wire is goest to the light bulb. Note date a 3-way switch or 2-way switch is a single pole double through switch.

Wiring Multiple Light Switches From One Power Source

 This post is about wiring multiple light switches from one power source, from this type of connection you will learn about wiring lights with switches. This is a basic and simple connection to learn for an electrical student and electrician student. In the wiring multiple light switches diagrams, I have shown 2 light bulbs and two one-way switches. Which is powered by one electric source.

In the below diagram, the electric supply is connected with the energy meter kWh, after the energy meter, the supply goes to the double pole MCB circuit breaker. And from the MCB, the neutral wire (black wire) is connected to both light socket/bulb holder. And the Line wire (phase wire) is connected to both switches. And from each switch, a wire is connected to the light bulb socket.
